As the nurse regulatory authority in Queensland, Queensland Nursing Council (QNC) is responsible for setting and monitoring standards for the approval of course providers and courses leading to registration, enrolment and endorsement and approving course providers and nursing courses which meet the appropriate standards.
Those wishing to conduct accredited nursing or midwifery courses are required to apply to us for approval as a recognised education provider. This approval is gained if they can demonstrate:
values and goals that are consistent with continuous quality improvement
effective internal mechanisms consistent with the values and goals, to ensure quality education
mechanisms to ensure that relevant resources are adequate for course implementation.
When a provider has gained approval as a recognised course provider, they may submit courses for accreditation. This accreditation is gained if the course provider can demonstrate:
the course design and implementation plan supports the development and preparation of graduates for safe and competent practice
the implementation of the course reflects the provider's quality mechanisms for the support of courses
evaluation of course design and delivery is directed toward continuous quality improvement.
Course providers are required to notify us of:
proposed major changes to structures supporting the course or education provider
proposed changes in education modality
any decision to discontinue an approved course.
We review education providers and courses every five years. Mid-term reviews are also conducted for each education provider.
